Eleven Billion Pesos

News said last week..."P11,000,000,000.00 has been approved for election automation".
Lotsa-money...argh!

That amount is to ease counting of casted votes for president, vice president, senators, congressmen, maybe Mayors, etc.

That amount will be spent by the national government for approximately 40,000,000 voters.

That amount does not include the candidates' allocation for the campaign.

That should stir up the economy, huh?!?!? But, would it serve its purpose?
Or...is there a less expensive way?

Over coffee, a good friend and I were joking...

Why not just use "texting" to vote?
Send to 2366...or 367...
Allocate enough money for a file server...IBM, maybe...or Sun....
Or even just pay the telecomm operators...say P20 per vote sent (that would be 10 times more expensive than regular text, huh???...)

Then, maybe ask every voter to re-register...and upon registration, the voter will be given a SIM Card...that's about P30 per SIM...including free text, huh????!!!!

There would be a lot more details, of course....but the thing is....the infrastructure is already built to send and receive the votes....and we don't need too much of "educating" the voters...almost anyone knows how to use the cellphones...even elementary students....that should save a lot of money.

Then how can voting thru text warrant that "cheating" is avoided?

...but then again...how was cheating avoided when elections were manually conducted? and how would spending P11 billion help?

Forty four...good number eh?!?!?

After a pounding day...
Tiring and exhausting...
Paper works, records review, signature collections...

All I needed was to wash my face...
Believe that these will be done and over...
And take a ride home!

My Life and Dream already were in slumber...
And across the Pacific I heard greets through my phone's receiver
"happy birthday, tatay!"

And yes...at the strike of twelve,
I was greeted at forty four.

how do we value ourselves?
what values does each of us stick to?
how much is something worth?

who do we value?
what are those things most valuable to us?
how much can we shell out to find value in anything?

Here's how it was....

in the workplace...we know what we should do...what is expected from us.
we know what we can and should ask from our superiors...from our staff....
from our employers...or even from our employees, if we do have some.

THAT is our value in the workplace...knowing what we should do...
what is expected of us...
NOT what we expect from our peers...or principals...
NOT to what we drive our servants against....

for instance...we cannot expect that purveyors
will succomb to our own lethargies...
moreso, we cannot disappoint an entire organization
only to prove someone has been an asshole...

and if we showed civil consideration to others...
it should be true...
otherwise, why bother?
why spend effort in falsely showing our own value?

is it not disgusting
that what we show is not what we say?
moreso...we cover up our insanity
by pointing an accusing finger to an innocent individual?

oh...values...what value does it give the writer
if what he wants to say stays in the mind?
and what value does one lose
if his lunacy he does not recognize?

values...
does everyone
value his own
values?

come now...
look at a mirror...
and maybe you'll find out, there's someone behind you.

Pinoy Transportation

I wasn't early at the MRT North Ave. station. I did not need to be early.
It was just 7:30am, I was needed at work at 9am. I still had time.

And so it was...same old story...passengers occupying almost 60% of EDSA's width...practically crawling to get to the entrance.

I was able to get in without "added" difficulties...it was difficult, but that was normal on a rush hour. I had one car to pass, so I can easily get in the next.

In no time...the passengers started pushing..inching in...everyday scene.
Off we went...and stopped at Quezon Ave. Station...more people came in....
Off again...and stopped at GMA Kamuning station....more people are trying to get in...
Some started to be rude. Rough. Pushy.
AND SOME WOULDN'T LET THE DOORS TO CLOSE.
The operator tried to close the doors several times but failed.

Until the dang announcement : All passengers please alight from the train...since our doors cannot close anymore...this train will be driven back to the depot...

And there!
with the passengers waiting at the station...and additional passengers (us) who alighted from the damaged train....there was almost chaos!!!

It took me about 8 trains to pass before i got a ride...and hear this...when I got off at Ayala station...I was charged P29! My normal rate was P14...
When I asked a station personnel...she told me that I overstayed inside the premises, that's why I was charged extra...I told her it was the train which broke down....She said if I can wait, she'll give me credits...Nah!!! wait for P15 credit for another 30mins??? Nah! I just wanted her to know...so that she'll report to her bosses, I told her.

Bottom line...I got to the office at 9:15am.
Still okay...but really tired!

Now, I wonder...can we not do anything about this? Can the administration not help the riding public?

Is it the people's fault? Can the public just wake up earlier...get a ride earlier...and be not in so much hurry so we won't be pushing each other to get a ride?

Isn't there a way to measure the number of people riding in a certain amount of time, at certain times of the day...so that these would be accomdated by a correct number of trains dispatched in the correct time of the day?

I remember seeing a building near the Nagtahan bridge : TRAFFIC ENGINEERING CENTER. Can that office help in the measurements? Doesn't the LRTA have a section to monitor all stations and note the riding traffic volume?

Is it the people's discipline that makes things worse?
Is it the government's lack of compassion for the riding public?
Is it an Engineering error?
Lack of funds?
Erroneous planning?
Lack of enforcing Security Guards?
Or, am I just a complaining asshole?

A colleague said..."one of the solutions is to have a higher rate during rush hour...so that those who cannot afford the higher rates would just ride earlier..."
Makes sense....

For me? I just have one request to my co-riders....
Please take a bath before you take the train...We all know that we'll be squeezed together inside. Won't it be "politeness" if everyone didn't smell bad?

THAT'S HOW IT LOOKS LIKE FROM WHERE I STOOD....THESE PEOPLE WAITED FOR AT LEAST 30MINS TO GET IN THE STATION....

THE PILE OF PASSENGERS WENT THIS LONG.....ALL WAITING FOR US (WHO WERE ASKED TO MOVE OUT OF OUR TRAIN) TO GET A RIDE...BEFORE THEY CAN GET IN AND WAIT FOR THEIRS...WHEW!!!!

Cruelty

It was a Monday, July 21, 2008
I witnessed human cruelty.
At least that's how I saw it.

A beggar was asking for food.
From someone who was having a sandwich at the other end of the long table.
He shooed the beggar...asking to be left alone.

The beggar was insistent...just asking for crumbs...leftover...
But he can only stare as the crumbs were being thrown away.

How could anyone be so cruel? How much would he have lost if he gave a piece of his bread? or, crumbs???
And what would anyone have gained, in reiterating to a beggar that in fact, he can only beg?

How cruel can anyone get?

My Dream

My Dream has not been so true yesterday afternoon...
but at least realization came before night time

Tears ran down as she faced the womb that bore her
And I left them to speak freely....

I would think things are but natural...
I would take it as an expected course...

Though all should now be wary...
That people are persons, and persons are loved
And loving a person entails responsibility
And that responsibilities should be acknowledged, accepted, and complied with.

Now My Dream has marked a learning curve...
and My Life would be beside her..

I'll just watch over, with a loving eye

it's been a while...
can't access this site from where I am most of the time...office.
i guess the systems admin is quite wary of so much virus around the net, and doesn't permit connections to un-needed sites....

So...what's been happening???

Argh! Lots of work!
It's fulfilling, though...hearing from my executives that I run things better than my predecessor did...and feeling my clients are happy with the attention they get from me...

I really, really hope I can pull this through.

What I got into is building a network that's probably first in the world....I wasn't here when they started it...but at least I got on board before it gets completed. And I got in at a time that things are heating up. Difficult, but do-able...at least as I see it.

Somehow it saddens me...the time I spent with my children really shrank...it was okay with Life, having been eligible for a summer job...but, I can feel the boredom that Dream had being alone most of her days....and me getting home late. The womb who brought my Life and Dream is just so patient that she doesn't make me feel she minds me having to get home late...That's support enough for me.

And siblings..and cousins...and friends....I have not been spending time with them lately.

And these things are for what? For a better job...for a more secure future for my Life and my Dream.

Lots to give up, huh, for a good job?

But it's actually not giving up a lot for something better. It's actually a choice. Because I have my reasons. Because I know what I want. Because I know what I need to do.

Suddenly...somebody calls up on my phone (I was in a client meeting)..."hey! can you send me your resume?"

I said..."but I am now on my second month working for your competition"

I heard..."that's okay...you can still leave them...send me your resume, I will SMS my email address"

I said yes and hang up.

Easily said...that guy might and may make an offer...and I'm telling the world..."I know what I want, and I know what I need to do..."

WHAT DOES THE WORD "TIRED" MEAN?
nakaka-bigla....hindi gulat....bigla lang...kasi out of nowhere yung tanong.
so...pinatulan ko....
sabi ko (pabiro) "that's hard to define...that would be dependent on who is saying i'm tired"
"imagine a basketball player...who gasps for breath as they rally at the last two minutes...
if the coach asks him....are you tired? can you still handle your game?"
siyempre sagot dun..."no coach...I ain't tired yet...I can finish this".
pero tanungin mo ang isang office boy...meeting sa umaga....delegate ng trabaho sa bago mananghali...
monitor ng progress ng mga gawain....nakaupo lang maghapon sa harap ng PC...
pero pagdating ng 6pm...7pm...8pm...
hindi mo na makausap...kasi daw, "pagod" na...

kaya tama din ang sabi ng kaibigian kong "puno ng talinhaga" pero simpleng katotohanan...

tama nga naman..unang-una, temporary lang ang pagod..dahil kapag nakapamahinga ka na, hindi ka na pagod...at kapag pagod ka na, hindi ibig sabihin, ayaw mo na ng ginagawa mo o ng kinatatayuan mo....gusto mo lang huminga-hinga ng kaunti...

Eto pa...yung isa ko naman dating kasama...pupunta daw ng ibang bansa...somewhere in Asia...
kasi daw, kailangan niya kumita...dahil may pinakakautangan na dapat mabayaran...dahil kailangan mapa-aral sa mainam sa eskwelahan ang mga anak...at kung maaari, eh makapagpagawa ng matinu-tinong bahay.
GOOD IDEA.
kaya lang, hindi ko maintindihan...bakit kailangan mangibang bansa???Dahil lahat ng pinoy nag-a-alisan na???
kung tutuusin...sarap ng buhay niya rito....isa siyang bisor sa isang di-kalakihang kumpanya, pero nakadikit sa malalaking kliyente ang amo niya.
dahil sa teknolohiya, hindi naman niya kailangan na alas-otso eh nasa opisina...sa katunayan, 11am or 12nn na siya nakararating sa opisina niya...at nakakaalis naman siya ng 6pm...o kahit na 5pm, kung gugustuhin niya.
halos dalawa o tatlong beses sa isang linggo, nakakalabas sila ng mga kaibigan niya...at hindi pipitsugin ang pasyalan huh??? ang katwiran : "hindi ba ako pwedeng magsaya?"
kinabukasan...ganun na naman...makakapasok tanghali na...at hindi siya hinahanapan sa opisina dahil nagagawa naman niya ang trabaho niya...saan ka hahanap, di ba?
sa suweldo, palagay ko hindi man malaki, eh hindi naman pipitsugin...
yun nga eh...nagbabayad daw siya ng utang dahil sa ginastos niya sa asawang pagkarating sa ibang bansa eh ayaw na daw sa kanya...
hindi ko ma-gets...ano ang hahabulin niya sa ibang bansa???
siya lang makakasagot niyan...
kung anuman..dahil kaibigan...kasama niya ang wishes ko ng katuparan ng anumang gusto niya.

napapagod...pero gabi-gabi ay napapahinga din...kaya lumalakas ulit kinabukasan.
abroad? matagal nang maraming nag-a-alok sa akin niyan...pero hindi ko pinapatulan...
sa tingin ko may pag-asa pa ang pinas...

First day...
introductory...
then a pile of documents to review

Second day...
the same pile of docs...
a few minutes with the staff...
then war room at client's office

Third day...
exec from regional office needs info for his meeting with client...
...war room in the office...
brainstorming for the regional exec's bullet presentation....
he meets with client...gets new directions for the project...
back to the office war room...to evaluate client's concerns...

Fourth day...
happens to be a Friday...
should be the lightest day of the week...
...but, last night's war room session
dictates a lot of preparations...
revisions for the planned programs...
review of available resources...
review of current network...

this is supposed to be a high paying new job.
yes it is.
i expected thrice the pressure...
....i overshoot, it is actually 5 or 10 times
the usual urgency of results, and delivery pressure.

did i want a high paying job?
uh, I remember...
this was what i have always wanted to get...
